Although it hurt to see him go, I have decided that it was right that Ten went out the way he did. Ten was the iteration of the Doctor who succumbed to hubris: if you stood against him, Heaven wouldn't be able to help you. Especially after Rose was trapped in the alternate universe, the Doctor began swinging closer and closer to embracing phenomenal cosmic powers. And that whinging speech he subjected Wilf to in his finale? Angels and ministers of grace defend us from such self-important grand-standing.
I still love him. I'll miss him. But he went the only way he ever could, desperately wanting to stay and never prepared to give it up.
