"That lion from Narnia!"

I posted last week about the first five True Blood minisodes, briefly analyzing the themes I felt they invoked and also writing a bit about where I felt the story was going. (This included spoilers from Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries series.)

Now, I've finally watched the final installment:

"Jason"
This scene immediately follows Jason ( spoilers for the end of S2 )

. It's incredibly recursive, dense with flashbacks of the first two seasons, as memories of Jason's past mistakes and experiences boil through his mind. Jason, as Jason is so good at doing, freaks out incoherently. In the closing moments of the minsode, we see two eyes regarding him from the underbrush.

Okay, that's enough noodling around for the night. Have I mentioned that I love my cracktastic vampire soap opera?

Geek Love

A few weeks ago, I spent an incredibly stressful early afternoon driving in Atlanta traffic. Drivers here are reckless and aggressive, which is in no way my favorite combination ever. I'd nearly missed our exit thanks to this behavior, and then had a harrowing change of lanes just after the near miss.

By the time we got to a stoplight where I could breathe, I was white-knuckled in my grip on the steering wheel and hunched forward in my seat. And although my husband had attempted to be helpful earlier with lane-checks and the like, this was the point at which he offered the most productive assistance.

He reached over, rubbing my neck gently, and sang "Soft Kitty."

Between the resulting laughter and the soothing comfort of the lyrics, I was right as rain in a minute's time. That's geek love.

30 Days of TV: I dressed like a crazy pharaoh for you!

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching

Quixote¹ and I have a unanimous answer on this one: COMMUNITY!

It airs Thursday nights on NBC, and I love it like burning. I find it incredibly difficult to describe, as well, and just end up flailing my arms a lot and then forcing friends and family into a seated position while I make them watch episodes with me on my DVR. There's a misfit study group and snarky dialogue and hilarious jokes and witty repartee and meta-commentary on the television and film genres. It scares the crap out of me that CBS moved The Big Bang Theory to Thursdays so that now it and Community will be going head-to-head. My love for BBT is vast, but it is a lion among sitcoms. Community still needs all the help it can get.

Since I don't know how to sell you on it, I'm going to spam you with clips. The first one features Abed and Troy (who is played by Donald Glover of Derrick Comedy, which I also <3 very much). They think they can rap in Spanish. They are so very wrong, and so very right.

Okay, enough clips! There are several episodes available on HULU, but you really should just all buy the DVDs when they are released later this year.

I know, I'm pretty hot on the topic. It's just such a brilliant comedy, and I don't say that lightly. I'm also completely enthralled by how layered it is, and how multiple viewings can reveal nuances of humor you miss on the first watch-through.

Community is awesome. Give it a watch!



1. My husband needs a pseudonym around here and, since we've dubbed our household Casa Quixote, we'll go with Quixote. Don Quixote's one of his favorite literary personages, after all.
